It's not an "or" situation. The landing page always starts auto-playing the show, and that's clearly the intent. It's a question of boosting media views over honesty for you I'd guess.

But coming here is like visiting a Geocities page from fifteen years ago. You can call it Flash IPTV. But auto-playing it is still as lame as animated GIF's with MIDI songs in the background."

Welcome snizz...but I have to say you may want to click on one of the 4 or 5 other ways to get to the show (i.e. the picture, the show link on the front page, the pic on the front page, the show description) because I don't get the auto play like you. I go to the page whenever and get to choose the download I want, or read the show notes. The "watch and download" link is the only auto play for me. I'd guess only using the link is soo geocities.

Comcast Question Again

I recently purchased a Home Theater in a Box setup by Philips (the HTS3544 model). I have it hooked up to my TV as the default audio out, so anything connected to the TV uses the HTiB as its audio output. It is working flawlessly, so the connection is not the issue I am having. My dilemma is that the Comcast DVR 3-in-1 remote control does not have any codes for HTiB setups. All the other models I saw listed on their remote controls website use 4-digit codes and include HTiB codes on the manual. This remote uses 5-digit codes, and has completely left out the HTiB section.

My goal here is to be able to control volume on the Philips receiver using the Comcast remote. I hate having to grab a second remote to change the volume. Any ideas -- is there some magical place somewhere that has the codes that Comcast has chosen not to provide?

Netbook suggestion for Veronica

Just wondering, doesn't the relatively low screen resolutions on these devices bother you? I recently switched from an ancient IBM ThinkPad to a MacBook Pro, but for a time, I was considering a netbook since web development doesn't exactly require much in terms of specs. It was either a fairly small desktop replacement (MBP) or a cheap and portable netbook, but I just couldn't use those resolutions.

About Wolfman's and Veronica's requirements for a netbook. They could get an Asus Eee PC 900HA (Atom processor, 1 GB upgradeable memory, 160 GB upgradeable HD), and Wolfman can get a 3G USB modem from the provider of his choice, possibly for free if he signs up for a plan. The 900HA's 160 GB hard drive makes "fitting" Windows XP a non-issue, and the value for money is simply incredible.

I've posted a review of the 900HA on my YouTube page if anyone's interested.

BTW, I've stopped drinking soft drinks two and a half years ago (from three cans a day to nothing at all). I feel so much better now! Well, except for the two kidney stones I've passed afterwards. Ouch!

PC Upgrade Question

I ordered another 1GB stick of RAM last night... and I got to wondering, is that gonna help me any? I know my system is fairly old now, but I don't have the funds to upgrade and don't think I will anytime soon. Reason I'm asking is I've noticed more recent PC games list 1GB as the minimum, so 2GB should increase performance somewhat... right?

Most defiantly! You should see a good jump in performance, at least enough to justify the upgrade. Don't worry about it ;)

How to identify hardware while offline

I'm a particular fan of cpuz when there's a need to ID what CPU or memory is in a system. It will even pull timings, the serial number and where it's installed, something I have yet to see anything else do.

Anyway, I was looking for a free OCR program to automatically convert a scanned document into perfect text that can freely be edited.

It's perfect, it does exactly what I need it to do and it's simple to use.

No, this post isn't spam, but I just happened to want to register here and I just happened to find a great program that I think would be good to put on the show.

Free software for legal DVD copy?

Assuming the file is already in DVD format, the easiest program I know of is DVDShrink 3.2. All you've gotta do is specify where the disc is, and after it finishes scanning the disc, hit the backup button and specify the folder to put it in. It has other advanced options, but they aren't required to get a basic dvd copy. From there, either burn it using any burning program in existence, or if you use nero, DVDShrink can burn straight from itself through a nero plugin. It appears to have issues with Vista SP1, but obviously that's not going to effect you.

My HP DV7 also experiences a similar thing. At bootup there will be a single pop; I guess that is just due to the speakers being powered on. However, during normal tasks I will occasionally hear a quieter pop. When playing UT2004 with headphones, there will still be a noticeable hum coming from the built-in Altec Lansing speakers.

Would your sound adapter be based on the Intel HD Audio STAC92xx chipset? Or perhaps it goes by the IDT brand?
