You can try using another machine's driver. Theoretically, it should work so long as its for the same OS and the same Broadcom card. The worst that can happen is that it doesn't work. But make sure you can reinstall your current driver if you have to.

As for Broadcom not offering drivers, although it would be nice if they did its really not their place to do so. They are a parts manufacturer and only sell their products to OEMs, not end users. Its up to the OEM (in your case, HP) to provide the proper drivers and support.

You're right, its probably not even 5 percent. Its like putting high octane gasoline in an old VW van. And as a programmer I get a headache every time I have to write code that deals with multiple processors. There's a reason I keep a bottle of Maker's Mark around!

For almost all users, a faster dual core and more memory would make far more sense than a quad core. Even then, Joe Average Homeuser is not going to do anything that takes advantage of a dual core. Multiple cores are mostly a marketing gimmick to induce people to buy upgrade hardware when they don't really need to. And except for gaming and certain other applications, faster processors are simply an excuse for sloppy programming.
