" War. This episode of pixel perfect is brought -- you by Netflix and godaddy.com. Hi and welcome the pixel perfect will be group monitor to show where all kinds of things happening. And today's happening here in my studio. Now last week I should -- to show you where everything fits in but I have at all not that's actually see what I do and here. I'm gonna give you SP preview into a pain I'm working on now it's a very sneak preview because it's going to be dumped at least two years. I'm estimating I think you don't have he has to do so because it's pretty big. So our special you. This week how gets organized and next week -- doing some of the work because see exactly what I'm doing with -- let's get into it. --"
" Are talking about the new piece down and ionosphere and I've got I think Damon. Now one big thing about this particular pain that quote a lot of worldwide attention with the fact that. One thing it's ten feet wide. Lawns pruning -- it's ten feet. -- forty inches but the main thing was that there was over 15000. Layers. Now I've expanded many times about how both of 15000 latest images in the single document their multiple documents Cyprus is designed -- here alone. That I building consists of three -- 2000 of these side. The friend here the front of the building and the corners -- individual files that contain only. Pertinent alpha channels paths and layers for those particular moment you'll combined into a single file which has gone to my overall file and up. Then -- It becomes part of the composite file all right assemble all the different elements that I want to show this one because it is pertinent to the new piece. The new piece I'm working on something -- want to do for years but I could never quite get it right it wasn't until I actually did. This one that I realized that. This gave me the answer of how I wanted to do an expanding. That is the subject of my own hometown of New York. City and it's something that it's so vast and so large that. It has to be shown in north -- here so just give me an idea this is ten feet I -- inches. Looking -- in comparison. Here is a new piece here. And using it took much longer now when this prince is going to be sixteen and sixteen inches by 26. Feet across. Now -- is going to take me about. Tuna -- appears to do because of the amount of detail what and elements that are in here. But it's a piece that I -- working pretty hard on and I'm sure how it starts. Out. This is any composite of multiple shots is about six different shots here we tested together using photo merge. To give me the overall scene that I'm going to be working -- now this in itself. Does not really work because the fact that photo -- does a very good job of stitching the images together. However it does distort them in order to make certain scenes match. Not that distortion. Is not accurate and you don't really see here but it's not accurate to the scene so."
" I start up an illustrator so normally it to the screen here what we'll look at the illustrator file and here's my working base file. And here we see that I've got this red box out here. Which indicates the actual dimensions of the pain. Now I've I'm working at. The -- the size you can see here and I give myself that indicator right there which tells me it's just a reminder that any time I think elements from here. And and I'm going to use and elsewhere I know that the blown up a certain amount is just a constant reminder. Now what happens in this particular case is that. I've got a yellow line going right across here -- real closely their refused yellow line that yellow line represents the horizon line. That's a horizon line -- which everything is going to fit now. From the horizon line -- established. To vanishing points this one which is -- northern view looking up north on seventh avenue and this one. Which is looking up Broadway. Because this is times square where Broadway intersect seventh avenue there are additional vanishing points as we see we ought to decide here. Which is looking down 44 street. So there are many dashing out points that are all converging on a vanishing line. But these are around on the horizon line but these are accurate they are accurate because in fact that I'm following the normal concept called perspective which I have covered on other episodes before. So they are accurate. As opposed to the the photo merge. Document. That kind of distorts things so based on this I'm now creating all my different elements not I would take a section like facilitate this piece right here. I'll take that and bring it into a illustrator file. We're I'd then blow it up to the size that I want to add additional details that I need and then that gets put into the job. Photoshop file put into a layer as they guide words start to create all these different elements. So. Let's sell look at somebody elements like presence we're -- according here. If we look back at the at the painting -- back up on top here. And -- clothes and we see this little sign right here the corner there's this sign which is his bubble -- right here. Not there's not much detail not much detail and all here so again it's starts off an illustrator. An illustrator. I've got the job. Mobile right here I've created this logo are of the bubble -- sign. I created quite large segment all of the Vito I want is some real text there and then some text that I manipulated. I -- and you. Turn to outline second -- near and distorted and make him look exactly the way they -- mobile looks I want to be fairly accurate. So this becomes -- I go in there and that becomes all my elements. Then this could -- in the Photoshop. And Photoshop as you can see here I've gone ahead and color -- it. Of Colorado did put into -- yellow background and headed the restaurant market signed as we see in the original shot. Now. Behind here I have been gone ahead and distorted that and let's look at this. And here we see that we have the finished its line would doom shading in the little light bulbs and everything in there in place no better no -- yet though that get added later. But there is he signed. Based on the com for the the original photograph. You see that I have a lot more detail not by coming closer -- see that there is a tremendous amount -- are going to this move elements and stuff parole. Visible blue highlights on the edges of the metal and so on all the little lips and there there is some dirt but I started and along the edges of the sign itself this part of the sign has nothing yet. Those who come later this -- that are out and then there's little reflections that we can see right in this area here. And reflections from street these only further refined in additional details will be placed at the very ending. Which is when I create what's called my composite file and then B ones over file. The once over files -- all the elements and then I literally go in. Inch by inch or window by window."
" And study every middle become make sure there's nothing that I. Over looked or some mistake or something that I want to add I do that in the once over file once that. That file is complete these images and -- wouldn't file name and it's considered finished. But JC -- different elements now in the other parts come back up to get this guy we see that Chris is this is light pole right here. Now you notice that there is a distortion sort of the back. It's at an angle it's twist -- off a little bit. Well looking at the illustrator file for that lamp posts. There's a lamppost you know that might illustrated file has no distortion the poll is going straight up. Because that's the way would seated we're seeing him be in the scene the camera did that distortion but in reality the -- is straight up. So do all the basic elements that become. The elements and I use -- here I've I've gone ahead and access came the stroke. Just that we could see -- turn off the primeau refuted their actions shapes is overlap here this is that when you room to look at color. If -- go to Photoshop and show you the actual file then. And don't hear insane man post -- there is involved lamppost finished now would zoom in on that area here and you see that there's. This nasal area where the bottom part and loopholes note that. Particularly -- to submit so it's mean and so on so go and here we look at other parts there's this little assembly appear. And -- way over to visit to the poll here. Com. It pulled back. And they can refresh. Now a lot of files open here. There Reseda we have all the different parts that make up the sign is. Some grind it somewhere and here again more will be added later. I've added a lot of crime to this and I does some preliminary tests to make sure that. -- present here these little lights. These little nuances of home on the little. He's that are not live I want to make sure that these particular -- will show up so this is when I start using all my printers to start doing tests -- to see. Is it. Going to get into more detail and too much detail have I gone too far would this and so on. So that's what I'll do a task for instance just to see how much detail like you get. In some cases have been pretty lucky I've been able to maintain as much detail so I go there and start and more. Now the sun and this might pose and Bubba -- and so before. They were assembled into this. Part right here. -- is a foul when Vietnam posts and the Bubba Gump. Signs will be brought into and businesses these side of the building now if you look here you'll see that I have. We turn off the -- obviously there's that. Piece that I brought in from illustrator it's an -- layer which are just cool -- it's called guides. And it's it's been stroke with a red just to show me exactly where all the different blocks of stone I'm going to appear and then sign up there. So both elements of their now when I command post on this and we get -- we'll see that there's a lot beat on this on so and getting close to see that there is he. Separations of these stone blocks there's little damages and its -- as you can see little edges. -- areas where. They don't quite a lineup and -- cracks and stuff going on all through here. So all of these little things and make that look real. So there's all that entire -- right there are now on to that I put in the Bubba -- signed and lampposts. -- knows together look like this. So here have also -- the Nokia signed which is completed so here we see that that whole side of -- campaigning is starting to come together. And receiving bubble -- sign that you assign the Nokia theatre you beginnings of the marquee and the lamp post in place. Now. Another section which you get -- little more complicated. Is this area here. Our show you today's basically how I created the face here. -- club track but there's all different elements going on in this particular scene -- going here in general club."
" And so you can see some of the details. I like museum at Toys 'R' Us. Now what I've done here is C letters T get the exclusions that we see inside here and these letters undecideds assign. I used. I use those to get those letters on the side. All different pieces there's little pattern going on the Internet Nash on these lights appear. All these different elements here this is what I'm working on now is being these this structure here for the lights on top. But all these different pieces what all assembled. And none illustrator and Photoshop that are coming -- look at this video box. It's pulled back a little bit. And see this whole video box here. This is one complete image that was made up of many different parts uncovered these guys enough. In a few minutes to show you this is not a scan every one of these things was created. Individually as one complete peace which is then brought in here now you mentioned going to be two more boxes here two boxes of Shrek and Shrek two. I just a little break from his boxes these faces took a long time to do something I went on announced starting. The play with the lights now those lights up there and this whole assembly. This whole thing here how to that also are about what. In my ia ha my reference. Between look at the reference here at Cisco look at that area. -- way over to that side of the of the -- This is a photographic reference now hangs his going to be a lot of stuff to go on and by the way I want to do realize something that there are buildings here. You know you see those buildings but those buildings are visible if you're very night the camera didn't pick him up. But they will be visible I have -- shots of all these buildings and they will be entertaining. Now it comes the lights there were talking about there is the lights right here. Not a how much detail not much detail at all in fact my getting real close on this as of this area here. How easy that I really don't have any detail and all. I just got a basic idea of what they look like and basic idea of the color. Now here's the pain and easy that there is a lot more detail going to close that there is. Look not that close this go back to sort of a lot of detail and does those lights. Plenty of of detail to get all the foot across now how does that start. Well go over here tonight. Bridge I'm now bridge we see that I have taken a lot of shots. See there's a lot of shots of the lights is his shots of the Toys 'R' Us sign. There is a lot of shots of the light assembly and here's some shots in front of building and you sided building. Not as a light is that close up and then there's the the real things everything and here is my video boxes those of reference and amusing. And so on I change around a little bit. I don't know if you noticed that the for instance. When we go back to that box to see that in the box they have these little jelly fish."
" Yeah I didn't put men and they got tired of it I didn't think you even see them side and put the man. But here we see all the different elements now. The beauty of the these great zoom capabilities of the G nine allowed me to stand on these vaccines spot and then go in -- and -- very close. On what he's like look like. Signal in here and see exactly what the assembly -- Where the wires are where every blue -- and so on so using these as my reference I think created the pain that we saw here. And I was able to get an -- and all that now I only created one light and only created one individual life. I also work on it much larger than what I really needed so that dumb. I gave people the detail that I needed okay there's the main file. Not all the different lights not a thing is that I they all came from one individual file which looks like back. Think there's the Maine like what I've got all of the detail that I want. Right there that's got all the details I could possibly want in this particular base shape. Now. Everything is and its own layer. Every individual pieces than its own layer so therefore. I can go in there and slightly modified did you notice that all the individual I think all -- different the dirt is different. The dirt was gonna separate layer so they would go near modified the dirt for each individual right. I also. Created different highlight think he's back here there reflecting a different color on the sign below so their colors had a change and -- those sections and so on. Again since everything -- in his own -- I was able to go in the air and modify things based on a single like. So that way I got all the lights look like different lights yet they are basically all the same. Now getting closer we see that prisons as wire here. Those were created individually in a separate layer looking at the mayor's panel port is bringing up of the."
" They see your city and here we see it as a light. And number three right there. And it's wire right there right above it. Wire for number three right there wired three inches in its own individual layer that we all -- layers and look all the wires look different. So now unit that the Lyra has a layer style -- Limbaugh's which gives me -- little highlight right in this area and up on top here and Sony goes right into Latin school area. So when we look at the wires in each of the other night to see that in some cases they've been down in some cases they've been though this when he sees a little off. That right there on this machine which when that is that's the scary here that's that wire through that -- needs to be raised a little bit. And does so I'll go in there -- just kind of people who raise this think that wire. And will -- wire up a little bit. I think you've got the right wire that's that one and we raised up a little bit I do raise it now. This is a fix here when I got into the finish piece is no problem because in the finish piece I really had that particular unlike had been fixed. And here's this piece here. Who -- who's paying for here and we see that that's the light that he noted that the wires have already been merged. Because here I'm working on his support is separate file out the lights are in place to poll is in place. The lights have been finalized so you all these wires have been adjusted all the dirt. You know is that the the highlight on the top has been erased on these lights. Because the fact that the pool is hiding its the American -- that a lot like the latest album automatically put in there and there as you can see units in the closest we see that. There's a layer style going across here and you'll go across this whole area well. Once you get to merge the highlight is taking off there because a -- going over the pole it's not going to pick up. That done. Highlight anymore so they're gets changed and of course it's a little shadow is being cast on poll from the who support beams here. There's a poll the poll has been supported -- this is both on the dismaying. Carriage sheer panic if you both blue shadows everything of importance does."
" And now a lot of this is made up based on how I understand like works by studying things because in my original shot that we look at here. None of that stuff is visible near the reference we see that there is no detail. No -- that I can discern a witty things are. Based on the stuff from bridge where I've got all my other shots being shown. We can see that I have plenty of detail. To -- the other tell me exactly what everything looks like the legacy that these little bolt. My goal here and and does select -- one and I look at it closely here I see that we have -- bolt. Right there are no corner right there so it makes it really easy to go -- mirror and get the detail that I want which had been had later now here I don't see the shadows. But again I don't see them here either I don't really see the shadows that are happening through here so in many cases I'd make a -- Now there are some additional shows that are going to go on to these beings. There's right now at a very bright. At some point I'm gonna go here and add some additional job that is going to be some. Braces on -- going over this was some. Wires coming up over this area here they will be casting shadows as well. So right now which has been occupied with the -- shadows that are along this edge here. And then this'll be -- later. We've if you were all these details and started take place. Now you see how I've got to organize -- started getting all the elements together how I keep an organizing now right. All the different files relayed between illustrator and Photoshop and so on. Next week we'll want to show you is I'm gonna go in there and actually start to create some of these elements show you some technique actually what's involved in how -- create some of the stuff. That's true -- face and -- video box. Initially out of guys who created. CNN actually."
