I like him too, but his special, Whiter Shade Of Pale ( I think that was it) hit me very 'meh'. I actually liked him in every other appearance I'd ever seen of his, than in his own special.

There's a great, shitty little movie made by TNT called Bad Apple (worth seeing for several reasons, none of them adding up to it being 'great'), but Jim has a small part, full of win. Even him eating a snickers bar is funny.

Here's another good reason to see this movie, her, tied up in chains in tight pants rolling around on the floor. Her, just, in general.... very good reason.

Beyond the Pale... You didn't like it? That's his best work! King Baby is good too, but BTP was the best... Oh well, at least you like him. The only problem I have with watching some of his - or any comedian, for that matter - stuff is when old jokes are repeated. I know it's tough to have all new material, but when I hear old stuff repeated on disc or DVD releases, it just kinda bugs me. Maybe that's what you didn't like?

Glad you like him anyhow.

Naw I liked it, but I thought I'd seen him do better in every small appearance I'd seen him do. I thought it was good, not great. It wasn't the jokes, I just felt a certain amount of UN-enthusiasm, from him (more than ususal), the crowd and myself.

I've gotten used to repeat material. Sometimes it's really cool to hear the same stuff done a different way (it's rare, but happens), or hear a different crowds reactions. I chalk it up to; comedian has new material, has to tour and do it as much as possible and get as many eyeballs on them as possible, once you insert recording media into the fray, it's bound to happen. Hey, I've toured with bands who do the same sets and the same jokes, every night, for YEARS ! Ya get used to it, sometimes differences in the delivery make it newly amusing to you.

I can't currently recall why I know who he is. I know that when he became the Saturn guy, I thought, 'yes, now everyone will know Jim Gaffigan'. I musta known him from Letterman or something, because I know I've known who he is for longer than Saturn Guy days. I think I knew who he was like, way back in the early 90's. This is bothering me right now. Hmm.

I do have to re-iterate though, he cracks me up in Bad Apple. I recently saw him in some old 70's Show eps too.

I know what you mean about the small differences in both that DVD and in music. As a kid I hated it, but grew to love it when I got heavy into Nirvana and Skinny Puppy. And a few of the jokes on BTP are different than I was used to hearing on his other DVD and albums that I had.

Now it is bothering me, too. I can't remember how or when I discovered Gaffigan... Not as long ago as you, though. I probably just found him randomly on YouTube or Suprnova while looking for new comedians to listen to. But I can't remember for sure.

I know for sure that I knew his voice in at least 92-93. I was listening to comedy solid from about 88 onwards and I remember that voice.
