That was disappointing. I thought I would finally be able to stream the shows in full screen onto my secondary display. Instead it’s just a standard podcast client with the Revision3 feeds already entered. These is nothing new. When are we going to be able to stream the shows or the live feed from a standard media player. I along with many other have been waiting for the ability to just turn Revision3 on like we would the TV and be able to just listen and watch things that sound interesting while doing work on our computer. The current streaming player will do that but as soon as i click on my main display it exits full screen, only a dedicated media player will stay full.

Sorry, I just don’t get it. They are acting like this is the newest thing. Podcatching has been around for what, 9-10 years? Why would they think it’s so innovative to add yet another way to download their shows. I mean come on, look at that Miro thing. The GUI just screams resource hog. Juice is a simple client that downloads their shows. Why do you need anything else?

Download KMPlayer or VLCPlayer and you can watch the files as you download them.

I, too, use Juice. That being said there may be a great deal of people reading this blog who don’t know what a podcatcher is, despite the age of the technology. For them this Miro client may very well be the best introduction since everything will play nicely right inside of the client.

I too used Juice but I have since switched to manually downloading since I don’t have enough hard disk space to store everything. That is why I want streaming. That doesn’t require much hard disk space yet allows hours of viewing.

I’ve been using the Miro player from the time it was called the Democracy Player.
From what I’ve seen, Juice is only a podcatcher. So it downloads the shows and you need to open them in an other player. With Miro it’s all in one program, has auto-delete after x number of days.
It’s a new way to support the show since the ads within the program is revenue for revision3.

Miro is awesome! I’ve been using it for a long time and I already have the Rev3 shows i want in it, so I don’t think I will download this Rev3 edition. But it’s still great that you have it!

This is pointless. There is absolutely no need for a branded version of Miro. Reminds me of all those annoying branded versions of IE that ISPs used to force on people back in the late 90s.
I would advise people specifically NOT to download the Rev3 Miro player - it’s probably not going to be updated or supported like the original and this time next year you’ll have old software while the rest of the world has moved on.

Dom,
In response to your comments:
1) Revision3 isn’t forcing this player on anyone. Their feeds are (and always have been) standard and will work in any feed reader or aggregator.
2) The custom player will be updated right along with the original version of Miro — you’ll get an auto-update notification when there is a new version to install.

Do I sense a feeling of fake outrage? I find it great, regardless of what the program used to be named. If it’s trying to get podcaster from being limited to Itunes then great. Oh wait, this is where you post comments. BITCH BITCH BITCH (throw in a shaking fist here or there) To hell with other’s viewpoints, let’s shit all over them.
better?

Lighten up people. Miro seems like a natural extension of Revision3. If you use it, the program is like Itunes for Internet TV. It has its own guide, and it will autodownload and autodelete your shows. For me, this means that I can just subscribe to my favorite podcasts, add podcasts that I like from the guide previews, and I know what shows are new. The cool thing about that is, you set it up and let it do its job and then when you sit at the computer, you just open up miro and new shows are there. I know other programs do the same thing, but its more automagical, and standardized than having to manually add rss feeds to a client. I only wish the Rev3 version was around before I spent a long time adding the Rev3 feeds to Miro manually. But hey, I now have my OPML file shared on my network so all of my systems will have the same content on them. Now, if only someone would create a program that would convert podcasts and burn the new ones to DVD automatically so I can watch them in my car DVD player. Or on another note, maybe miro could add new podcasts to a windows media player playlist like some other podcatchers do (and delete old/viewed shows), so I could have them automatically sync to my Mobile Device…hmm

About resource hogging, it may use more resources than Juice (I haven’t checked) but my Miro is currently downloading 3 videos and was using less memory than a single window of Firefox sitting at about:blank. Given, Firefox 2 is a bit of a memory hog, but most people point to the problem with multiple tabs open.
Then again it was using about twice the amount of memory of Safari..
